Summer Running Events in OregonListing of 10K/ 5K Runs & Walks, Marathons, Triathlons Competitions
From May to September, running events such as 10K and 5K races occur throughout the Willamette Valley, Southern and Central Oregon, providing fun for all running levels.
From May through September, participants can find a variety of athletic events in the Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon and Central Oregon. From running a 10K to walking a 5K or competing in a triathlon, this year's events in the area fit any level of participation. Bridge the Gap Run – Medford - May 3rdHelp raise money for Mobility Unlimited, providing mobility equipment for people in need. This event includes a 5K run, 5K walk and 10K run along Bear Creek. The race course takes place on bike paths along the water. The Bridge the Gap Run began as a compliment to the Pear Blossom Run, occurring in April, which began in 1977. Registration for events starts at 7:00 a.m., with events beginning at 8:30 a.m. Rhody Run – Florence - May 17thAs part of the Rhododendron Festival in Florence, the annual Rhody Run takes place before the Grand Floral Parade. The run consists of a 10K run or 5K run/walk, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The race begins at Siuslaw High School’s football field, at 9:00 a.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m. Contact the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce for more information on registration. Heart of the Valley Triathlon/ Duathlon – Corvallis - May 26thJoin area athletes at the Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis for triathlon and duathlon events, for serious athletes and children alike. Triathlon events include a 750-meter swim, 12-mile bike and 5K run. Duathalon events comprise a 5K run, 12-mile bike and finishes with another 5K run. The kid’s triathlon consists of a 25-meter swim, quarter mile bike and 300 yard run. A more advanced children’s event, the “Iron Kid’s Triathlon”, includes a 100 meter swim, 2.5 mile bike and half mile run. Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival – Sunriver - June 27-29Sunriver hosts an amazing athletic event over the course of the last weekend in June. Participants enjoy views of the Central Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor and scenery. Athletes can participate in a wide range of events, including:
Walkers are welcome in many of the events, remaining untimed. Swimming events take place in the nearby Wickiup Reservoir. Live entertainment, music, and many other events happen all weekend long at the Sunriver Village. Fitness information is also available throughout the weekend event. Butte to Butte – Eugene - July 4thJoin 10K runners for the 35th annual Butte to Butte run in Eugene on the Fourth of July. The event spans the two massive buttes in Eugene: Spencer Butte and Skinner Butte. The run begins at Spencer Butte, down through the city and ends at Skinner Butte. The 4.5 mile Fitness Walk consists of the flat areas of the race course through the city. The 10K event begins at 8:00 am, with the Fitness Walk to follow. Registration must be done before the race day. Prefontaine Memorial Run – Coos Bay - September 20thIn honor of Oregon’s beloved track hero, Steve Prefontaine, this run happens September 20th at 10:00am. A fun walk also takes place during the event. The memorial run takes place in Prefontaine’s hometown of Coos Bay. The famous track runner remained undefeated while running at Coos Bay’s Marshfield High School. Prefontaine tragically died in May 1975, during the height of his running career. While attending the University of Oregon in Eugene, he held every track record from the 2-mile run to the 10K. The Nike Prefontaine Classic is also held in his memory, occurring in May at Hayward Field in Eugene.
